Showdown on NYE for the second consecutive year.

Well not a real shocker, Team USA (3-0) will meet Team Canada (3-0) tonight in what will no doubt be an epic showdown for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Americans led 3-0 before John Tavares brought Team Canada back to life with a hat-trick. Team Canada would eventually defeat Team USA 7-4, in stunning fashion. These long time rivals have had quite the WJC history; in 2007 both clubs met in the Semifinals, that contest went to a seven round shootout with Jonathan Toews scoring three times to give the Canadians a 2-1 (SO) victory. In 2004, Team USA roared back from being down 3-1 to tie it in the third frame. Patrick O'Sullivan recorded the go-ahead goal and the Americans captured their first gold medal.
Fast facts: Both teams have met 34 times since 1977, Canada holds a 26-5-3 advantage. Team USA Captain Derek Stepan has posted 8 points (3+5) through three games. 9 out of 13 USA forwards have scored a goal. Three players for Team Canada have 8 points: A. Pietrangelo (2+6), G. Bourque (3+5), J. Eberle (3+5). Brandon McMillan leads the Canadian effort with 4 goals in three games.
Action begins at 7:30 p.m. on the NHL Network in the states and TSN in Canada.

Five days of WJC action in the books

The 2010 edition of the IIHF World Junior Championship started off with a bang, as Team Canada roared out of the gate on Boxing Day; defeating Lativa 16-0. Team USA methodically dismantled Slovakia later that evening 7-3. Other scores from 12/26: Sweden 10- Czech Rep. 1, Russia 6- Austria 2.
On Sunday (12/27), Team USA lead by goaltender Jack Campbell shutout the Swiss 3-0. Sweden defeated Austria 7-3, Finland outlasted the Czech Rep. 4-3, and Slovakia took out their frustration on Lativa 8-3.
Team Canada returned to action on Monday (12/28), blanking the Swiss 6-0. Jordan Eberle led the way with 5 points (1+4). Later in Regina, Russia held on in a tight contest against Finland 2-0.
On Tuesday (12/29), the Czech squad defeated the Austrians 7-1. Team Sweden dispatched of Russia 4-1. Tournament heavyweights, Canada and USA both won maintaining their undefeated status (CAN 8- SVK 2, USA 12- LAT 1).
